David Rice Atchison was President Pro Tempore of the Senate in 1849. It is set up that the President Pro Tempore is next in line if something happens to both the President and Vice President. Plattsburg Missouri is about fifty miles North of Kansas City Missouri. Legend has it that David Rice Atchison was President for one day due to March 4, 1849 falling on a Sunday. President Taylor did not want to take the oath of office as President due to it being Sunday and I think something to do with his religion. Depending on how you look at it, President Polk's term as President was extend by one day or you can say the United States has had a extra President. I have read the book Who's Buried In Grant's Tomb by CSPAN, It is about all the Presidents graves around the US and there is a picture of the grave in there and it say that it is just a legend. So in this case you have to be the judge. E-mail me and tell me what you think.
